The Official Charity of the Times Colonist Island Savings Open

The Greater Victoria Housing Society is pleased to be the designated official charity of the 2013 Times Colonist Island Savings Open.

Established in 1956, the Greater Victoria Housing Society is dedicated to providing affordable rental housing. We currently own 14 properties located in Victoria, Esquimalt, Saanich and Colwood. In January of this year we broke ground on our 15th building.

Offering more than a shelter, our buildings are a safety net for people faced with a personal crisis such as a health issue or loss of a job or for those just starting out who cannot afford to buy or rent in the market.
We have an ambitious goal to double the number of affordable rental housing we own and manage and we welcome opportunities to partner. Thank you to the Times Colonist Island Savings Open for their support!

The Island Savings GIFT program helps build strong communities by supporting initiatives that improve the quality of life for Island families.

Through GIFT, 100% of all ticket sale proceeds from the Times Colonist Island Savings Open will go to the Greater Victoria Housing Society in support of their affordable housing initiatives.

In recent years, more than 270 non-profit groups on the Islands have received over a million dollars in financial grants and in-kind assistance through the Island Savings GIFT program, and last year, Island Savings employees volunteered over 1,500 hours in the community.

More than $11,000 was raised for the Greater Victoria Housing Society at the 2012 Times Colonist Island Savings Open, and we hope to beat that total this year. Thank you for helping us build strong Island communities.
